Born and raised in Australia, Robert Schwab found his passion for drag racing as a teenager, spending countless hours wrenching with friends and family. In 1988, armed with just $300 and a dream, he arrived in the U.S. determined to race a Nitro Funny Car. His relentless drive led him from diesel mechanic work in Nevada to building his first full-size funny car from scratch—using a scale model, a borrowed TIG welder, and a shed made of scrap.
In 2004, after years of exhibition racing, Robert and his volunteer crew made their NHRA national debut in Denver, CO—one of the tour’s toughest tracks. Not only did he qualify, but he won two rounds against top Funny Car veterans, earning instant respect in the sport.
After years of racing across the country and five seasons working alongside legendary racer Jim Head, Robert now brings his expertise and hands-on experience to Follow A Dream Racing as Nitro Funny Car Trainer, helping build and train the new Follow A Dream Nitro Funny Car team. His journey from a small Australian town to the national stage stands as a testament to skill, grit, and the power of following one’s dream.
